Named after the renowned Slovene author, Prežihov Voranc Library was established in 1956 to cover the south western part of the city of Ljubljana. Being a regional unit of Ljubljana City Library, it covers ten branches situated at Rudnik, Brdo, Grba, Ig, Dobrova, Škofljica, Velike Lašče, Horjul, Podpeč, and Brezovica as well as five service points. The central unit is housed in modern and spacious premises at Ljubljana Vič, where the material for all its branches is purchased and registered in the COBISS - Slovene Virtual Library system. A mobile library also visits 25 villages and towns.

Extending on 800 m2, the library's collection comprises more than 250,000 items, including books (also in foreign languages), publications, magazines and journals, audio/video material, maps, and audio books. In the travel section an extensive collection of travel books, travel and holiday guides, and foreign dictionaries is available, whilst the children's corner offers both educational and entertaining material for the youngest of visitors. The reading room holds more than 230 current Slovene and foreign newspapers and magazines. The library also features computer workspaces allowing users to access the Internet and online bibliographic systems and services, including COBISS, IUS-INFO, GV-IN, EBSCO, Grove Music online, and Oxford Art online.
