The Slovene Association of Literary Translators was founded in 1953 as a professional union engaged in maintaining a high level of translation work and contacts among translators. The Association organises literary and debate evenings, professional meetings, lectures and conferences and stimulates international academic exchanges involving translators. It has collaborated with other cultural, educational and professional organisations and institutions in Slovenia and abroad and edited numerous publications on translation.

The Slovene Association of Literary Translators is member of the Conseil Européen des Associations de Traducteurs Littéraires (CEATL).

In co-operation with the Ministry of Culture and several publishing houses, the Association presents the annual Sovre Award for the best translation to one or two Slovene translators.
