The third university to be founded in Slovenia, the University of Primorska was established in 2003 as one of the major projects entrusted by the Slovene state to the region of Primorska after the country had become independent. As a new centre of knowledge founded in a border area, the University looks forward to international exchange. The restructuring of its programme in accordance with the Bologna Declaration is proceeding in co-operation with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology.


Programme

Undergraduate and postgraduate study programmes at the University are conducted by five faculties and one college, offering 33 undergraduate study programmes and 26 postgraduate study programmes. The university has six faculties: Faculty of Education; Faculty of Humanities; Faculty of Management, Faculty of Mathematics, Sciences and Information Technologies which are all housed in Koper, while the Faculty of Tourism Studies called Turistica is located in Portorož and the College of Health Care in Izola.

Research is carried out by two institutes - the Primorska Institute for Natural Sciences and Technology (PINT) and the Science and Research Centre of Koper (SRC Koper).


International Co-operation

The University of Primorska is a member of several international networks: The Mediterranean Universities Network for Sustainable development (SD) focusing on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), The European Universities Association (EUA), Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED), and the presidency member of Rectors' Conference of the Universities of the Alps Adriatic Region (AARC) and The Slovenian Rectors' Conference.

The University offers a possibilities for student and staff exchanges within the exchange programmes: ERASMUS, CEEPUS and EGP Norway Grants. The University holds bilateral agreements with universities and research institutions from Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Italy, Israel, Kosovo, Mexico, Poland, Serbia, Taiwan and United States of America.
