The Copyright Agency of Slovenia (AAS) was established in 1955 in Ljubljana, and though it has changed names on numerous occasions, its mission has remained the same: it administers artists’ contracts, manages honorarium payments, offers protection of material and moral rights and runs legal processes.

Activities

Its users include cultural organisations, publishing houses and theatres. It has also co-operated with several professional associations to protect the copyrights of their members and other individuals.

After 1991 AAS prepared several professional drafts related to copyright for the new state legislation. Thereafter state bodies gave the Agency more concessions, and several activities, including anti-piracy programmes, were initiated within the framework of the Agency’s activities. Professional staff from AAS frequently represent Slovenia abroad.

The agency is also building awareness of the significance of copyright as a material basis for creation. Finally, AAS is an important meeting point for Slovene and foreign authors and cultural and scientific creators. Its website includes the Copyright and Related Rights Act and the Act on Customs Measures in English, plus many other acts and information related to copyright in Slovene.
