Mentor Magazine 2010 no 01-02.jpgMentor Magazine cover, No. 1-2, 2010

Launched in 1978, the magazine Mentor aims to develop an interest in writing, reading and understanding quality literature. It publishes literary texts, interviews, reviews, and reports on various symposia and festivals. It also incorporates literary competitions to stimulate young creative writers and is illustrated by emerging artists.

Mentor is one of the 4 publishing projects devoted to literature at the Public Fund for Cultural Activities of the Republic of Slovenia. It is published 5 times per year.

Competitions and events

Along with several annual competitions, Mentor magazine team within the JSKD organises the traditional competition Veseličnica ("Happy-Go-Lucky") for best humorous stories. The selected work is awarded and published in the magazine. Since 2009 Mentor collaborates also with the Days of Poetry and Wine Festival where it stages Free Market (Prosti trg), an open public reading (each participant is limited to 4 minutes).

Literature publications by Public Fund

Next to Mentor Magazine, the literature publications of the Public Fund for Cultural Activities of the Republic of Slovenia include Paralele [Parallels], a multilingual journal for expats living in Slovenia; and Prvenke [Debuts], a series of books by young and upcoming authors.
