Art kino Odeon Izola is the main art cinema that caters to the Slovene coastal region, running film programme from Wednesday through to Sunday each week. It is a part of the public institution Center za kulturo, šport in prireditve Izola, founded by the city municipality of Izola. The cinema operates in an old cinema hall dating from 1931 which was completely renovated some years ago. Since 2010, it also has the a summer-time Open Theatre, called Letni kino Arrigoni.

In 2003, the Odeon cinema has reoriented to become an art house cinema. Aside from screening films, the place also runs a strong programme of film related events and festivals. Additional,y it is the sporadic venue for various other cultural events – from conferences to music concerts audiovisual events, concerts or performances, in order to attract a slightly different kind of audience. The cinema hall contains 95 seats and is equipped with a 35mm film projector and Dolby sound equipment. The cinema is a member of the Art Cinema Network, which distributes selected films around Slovenia.

Art kino Odeon is also a member of the Europa Cinemas network. It is one of main venues of the Kino Otok - Isola Cinema Festival.

Programme

Aside from screening films, which are mostly either art house prefer to screen mostly independent, quality, art, auteur film projects, with a special emphasis on European and Slovenian films, new Slovene movies and documentaries or various quality cinema features for the younger audiences. Only occasionally there are more mainstream flicks. It is a regional venue, simultaneously serving as a point of departure and coordination for quality art film, striving to connect film creators and audiovisual culture agents as well as their audience in general.

The programme is augmented by various events, like Cinema Live, during which screenings are accompanied by either movie directors or actors, and sometimes feature discussions on a given theme. Another feature is called roject Cinema Girandola (Kino Vetrnica), where during the weekends, the first screenings are dedicated to the youngest audience.. (it also cooperates with schools), run retrospectives of film classics, v mesecu decembru prirejamo dogodek z imenom Najkrajši dan v letu za kratke filme (21.12.).

Festivals

Art kino Odeon Izola is among the main venues and co-prioducers of Kino Otok - Isola Cinema Festival. It also runs a programme of films featured at the Ljubljana International Film Festival (LIFFe) (called Liffe po Liffu) and at Animateka International Animated Film Festival. It si featured in the Eye on Film Festival and the Filmski teden Evrope.

It co-organised the Slovenian Animated Film Review (a sporadic festival which was held here a long time ago) v sodelovanju z Društvom slovenskega animiranega filma : D’SAF!, kjer poleg projekta Animateka po Animateki, predstavljamo najzanimivejše animacije, ki so bile v preteklosti distribuirane v Sloveniji: tako animirane filme za odrasle, za mladino in za najmlajše, temu so prilagojene dodatne vsebine in predstavitve filmov.
