The Best Short Story Award was introduced by the Slovene Writers’ Association and the Sodobnost International Cultural Society because this literary genre had not previously been recognised by a national award. In 2005 the Award (€ 1,000) was conferred for the first time at the Slovene Book Days. The winning short story and several other nominated entries are published in Sodobnost magazine.
