The Academy of Fine Arts and Design' Department of Painting, Sculpture and Restoration Library serves the three departments: the [[Department of Painting]], the [[Department of Sculpture]] and the [[Department of Restoration]]. It specialises in literature on art history, fine art and art theory, especially modernism and post-modern art. The library comprises numerous monographs, dictionaries, encyclopaedias and catalogues of exhibitions in Slovenia and abroad, plus several periodical titles. At 90 square metres, the library offers 16 seats for readers. The library is mostly visited by ALUO students, but is also used by students from other art academies.

Together with the [[Department of Design Library]] the libraries of the Academy have 24,770 units of library materials and 71 titles of currently ordered serial publications. The library is also an integral part of the library-information network of the University of Ljubljana. It is equipped with classic card catalogues and terminals. Since 1994, data have been entered into the COBISS/OPAC System.

The Library of the [[Academy of Fine Arts and Design]] was established soon after the academy itself. The first library units were registered in [[established::1946]] when the academy and its library were situated in Poljanska Street. The library grew slowly (about 400 units of library materials in the beginning) and the first librarian [[Milica Špenko]] was employed in 1954. In 1959 the academy moved to Erjavčeva Street and the library got a room on the third floor.
