Department of Theatre and Radio, Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television (AGRFT) is one of the three departments of the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television (AGRFT) in Ljubljana, the only Slovene institution that educates for theatre and radio professions at the university level, both at the under- and the postgraduate level. In the frame of its programmes, the department regularly produces study performances, thus ensuring the examination of theoretical knowledges in practice.

Overview

Undergraduate courses are offered in the fields of theatre and radio directing, acting, speech training, set design, costume design, dance and movement, and stage singing. Graduates obtain a university degree in acting or directing. Postgraduate studies cover acting and speech training, theatre and radio directing, set design and costume design.

At the end of each semester, students of acting and directing prepare public theatre productions, dance or music performances, or radio programmes for either internal or general public, which are developed under the tutorship of the Academy's lecturers and often in collaboration with external makers. These productions are sometimes also co-produced by other theatres and production houses. Thus, in 2009 the Academy prepared the reconstruction of the cult Slovene performance The Noble Mould of Pupilija Ferkeverk [Žlahtna plesen Pupilije Ferkeverk] in co-production with Maska Institute and Slovene National Theatre (SNG) Ljubljana - Drama, in 2007 the performance Nora Nora, based on Evald Flisar's text, directed by Alen Jelen, and co-produced with ŠKUC Association, etc. The productions are presented at various festivals, for example, Nina Eva Lampič's 2009 project Project Hamlet [Projekt Hamlet] was included in the side programme at the Borštnik Theatre Festival.

International co-operation

AGRFT productions are presented at various international theatre festivals and academies, among others SETKANI/ENCOUNTER International Festival of Theatre Schools in Brno, Check Republic, Istropolitana, Bratislava, Slovakia, Skomrahi Meeting of Theatre Academies in Macedonia, and World Festival of Radio, Television and the Web Prix d’Italia.

The major part of international student exchange is carried out through the Erasmus and CEEPUS programmes. The Academy’s partners in student exchange programmes and intensive seminars are the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Liverpool Hope University College, University of Antwerp, Free University Berlin, DAMU Prague, University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Darlington College of Arts, Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica, and others. The Academy has established links with other institutions in the region, such as the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb (Croatia), the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade (Serbia), and the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Skopje (FYR Macedonia).
