Darko Brlek, General and Artistic Director

Originating in 1953 with Ljubljana's oldest festival, the Ljubljana Festival, the Festival Ljubljana Public Institute was established in 1954 by the Municipality of Ljubljana. Apart from its continued central duty of organising the annual festival, the institute organises, or takes part in organising, numerous other projects that contribute to the cultural image of the capital. Other traditional events within its remit include the event Slovene Music Days, the Young Virtuosi music programme, and the Festive December programme, in which short concerts by the Ljubljana music school students are given at he Knight's Hall of the Križanke architectural complex, designed in 1952 especially for the Ljubljana Festival by renowned architect Jože Plečnik.

Festival Ljubljana is a member of both the European Festivals Association (EFA) and the International Society for the Performing Arts Foundation (ISPA).
