L’Institut Français Charles Nodier (IFCN) performs its cultural and educational activities in close collaboration with some French institutions, eg la Maison des Cultures du Monde, Paris, l'Association Française d'Action Artistique (AFAA), l’Observatoire des Politiques Culturelles, Grenoble, l'Université Paris-Dauphine, Paris, l'Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Sciences de l'Information et des Bibliotheques Villeurbanne and la Direction des Archives de France, Paris.
The Institute aims to create contact points between Slovene and French forms of contemporary cultural expression. It also deals with classical culture in all its aspects, runs French language courses in Ljubljana and in France, administers exams and awards certificates, offers grants to translators, and manages a library and a mediatheque/information centre. The IFCN administers scholarships for study and research purposes every year.

A special kind of stipend is also available for Slovene translators to translate French works of literature for publication within one year by a Slovene publisher: translators get financial support for a residency at the College international des traducteurs litteraires in Arles, France.
