The Ormož Museum was established in 2005 by the Municipality of Ormož with the separation of the Ormož unit from the Ptuj Regional Museum. Since the municipality did not manage to cover all the costs, the Ormož Museum was again merged with the Ptuj Regional Museum in 2009. The new museum was named Ptuj – Ormož Regional Museum.
In 2006 a temporary exhibition Between the Rivers Drava and Mura was organised in Ormož Castle, which was conceived as a presentation of archaeological heritage in the areas and border municipalities Prlekija, Medžimurje (Razkrižje, Štrigova, Ljutomer, Ormož, Brela and Gornji Mihaljevec). The exhibition was a result of the Community Initiative INTERREG III A project, Neighbourhood Programme of Slovenia, Hungary and Croatia, entitled Tourist Zones of Prlekija and Medžimurje.
