ZOO Club was established in 2014 on the site where a club (a slightly infamous one, called KMŠ and known for wild drinking) was previously already running for a long time. Bent on overcoming its old image, the club kickstarted a brand new programme that imaginatively combines very different and quite many musical genres, from jazz and ethno to dubstep and techno, coupled with a culinary offer. It also organises Urbano Dejanje, a festival of contemporary urban cultures (from break-beat and graffiti art to music), locating it on the wider premises of the Tobačna Cultural Quarter.

The place is located at the site of the former Tobačna cigarette factory in Ljubljana, which has developed into an administrative and cultural centre since the factory's closure in 2004. It has two floors with a joint capacity of 400 people. During the summer it also runs a summer garden, and as the place is set in an nonresidential area, it also runs a music programme there.

Programme

The place combines its own programme with guest crews taking care for a part of it. It is also available for rent – for private events as well as public.

Amongst the first regular programmes at ZOO Club were its Jazz Mondays, which have until now hosted the better part of active Slovene jazz musicians. Open to younger, upcoming bands as well as to seasoned artists, it has hosted Jure Pukl, Igor Lumpert, Ratko Divjak, Moonlight Sky, etc. Of a slightly similar nature is also the kvalitETNO series, which presents musics from al over the world, and open to genres such as flamenco, bossa de nova, fusion, big band jazz, rock, blues, and so on – the quality nevertheless remains a guiding principle. Though some of the bands come from abroad, most are more local, among them Caña (flamenco), Bossa de Novo (bossa de nova), TAman (sevdah), María Keck (HU), Adriana Trindade, etc. Sonic Entity

The summer gardens – as well as club nights – is also the place for reggae vibes, funk, hip hop. The locals Woo-D in Bakto have been regular guests here, for example.

Urbano dejanje festival
