The Institute for Sonic Arts Research (IRZU) was established in 2008 by Miha Ciglar, audio engineer and sound artist, working at the intersection of art and technology.

IRZU is a non-governmental institute. It is based on an interdisciplinary concept and is conducting artistic productions in the field of electro-acoustic music / inter-media performances and installations, as well as audio technology research and educational activities.

In May/June 2009 IRZU organised EARZOOM Sonic Arts Festival in Ljubljana which featured electro-acoustic performances, lectures, installations by invited foreign and domestic artists and sonic researchers. One of the aims of the festival was to push the dialogue amongst existing Slovenian institutions which are already involved in contemporary music and sonic arts but mainly on the individual basis.

Miha Ciglar regularly performs and lectures abroad. Among the current projects run by the Institute is the series of lectures on Theory and Techniques of Contemporary Music in May and June 2010.
