Intima Virtual Base - Institute for Contemporary Arts was established in 1996 by intermedia artist Igor Štromajer as a non-governmental artistic institution that serves mostly as the platform for his projects in which he as a rule collaborates with many partners - individuals as Brane Zorman, Annie Abrahams and institutions as Aksioma Institute to name just some of them. Intima Virtual Base alias Štromajer deals in different creative media and forms of activity, mostly in internet based art projects, interactive installations, technology related artworks, video, sound and radio projects and conceptual contemporary performing arts. Intima researches tactical emotions states, intimate guerilla tactics, and traumatic low-technology strategies.


About

Igor Štromajer, who graduated at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television (AGRFT), tackles in his intermedia projects tactical emotional states and traumatic low-tech emotional strategies. He has shown his work at more than 100 exhibitions and festivals in 50 countries and received a number of international awards.


Beside the both biggest national instititions for contemporary arts as the Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana or Maribor Art Gallery, his works are included in the permanent collections of the Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris), the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia (Madrid), and the Computerfinearts Gallery (New York). As an artist-in-residence he lectured at universities and contemporary arts institutes in Europe, the USA and Canada.

Projects

Internationally-renowned projects of Štromajers early phase include: I want to share you - what are you doing to me? (Serralves Museum within Porto 2001 - Capital Europeia da Cultura, Portugal); S.HTML security - a net monument (2003); We Finns, We Don't Use Chains! - a dystopian territorial database (Antwerp, 2003); wPack wireless packages, a distribution centre (2004); or Problemmarket.com The Problem Stock Exchange by him and Janez Janša.


Ballettikka Internettikka

It is on ongoing internet guerilla performance study developed in collaboration with Brane Zorman and theoretical adviser Bojana Kunst. It explores wireless Internet ballet performances combined with guerilla tactics and mobile live.

Between 2001 and 2010 exact 18 subprojects comprises this series: starting with the 'net.ballet' (2001), 'ballet.net' in Moscow (2002), 'M-III robot net ballet' and continuing since 2007 with those entitled Aeronauttikka, Stattikka, Olymppikka, Intermenttikka Hydraullikka, Norddikka to name just some of them. Štromajers projects are presented all around the world including in Hong Kong, Berlin, Beograd, Seul, or Madrid to name just some of them. In the end of Mai 2010 the new project of the series the Insecttikka is performed live from Hamburg and live broadcast per internet to The Netherlands Media Art Institute in Amsterdam, where the Ballettikka Internettikka Insecttikka is a part of the Performmikka Internettikka event, curated by Petra Heck.


Oppera Internettikka

Another project is Oppera Internettikka, a series of low-tech internet opera art projects begun in 1998. It explores the combination of classical opera tactics and strategies, together with singing HTML source code, text-to-speech software, Java scripts and applets. The project was presented in Skopje, Berlin, Ljubljana, New Delhi, Montpellier and on Internet.
