History
K4 formally established in 1989, in the basement under K6/4 Institute quarters, but was unofficially running since late 1980's under ŠKUC. Always following alternative underground musical trends, club went through various programme changes, hosting punk, grunge and rock to hip-hop and nowadays more or less just electronic club events. K4 was the starting point for many Slovene musicians, DJs (Beitthron, DJ Umek, Valentino Kanzyani and many more), rappers (Ali-En, Klemen Klemen, N'Toko and Trkaj), and other cultural workers (Aldo Ivančič, Aida Kurtović and Jure Longyka) and was, in the late 90's, the the first club to introduce rave, techno and house parties to Slovene public.
Events and Crews
Nowadays K4 is primarily a nightclub, but practically the only one in the Slovene capital, which is, without any serious hiatus, operating since its beginning. It is also the only fully operating nightclub providing alternative electronic music, supporting local crews and inviting prominent foreign DJs, VJs and producers to serve their cause. The crews who organise their happenings on regular bases are Illegal Kru with Digital Dungeon, Don't Make New People, DrumWise, Synaptic, Zavod Pralnica and collective Colours with techno and house events, K4 is also collaborating with Mimoza, Smetnjak, ZAvod Kru, RDYO Djs, Buba Booking and Promotion and Sindikat.
K4 is a gay-friendly venue, throwing K4 Roza events for gays and lesbians almost every month, usually on Saturdays or Sundays. In the year 2012 happenings called EVEnings made their start, focusing on promotion of female DJs, VJs and audio-visual artist from the field of electronic club subcultures. The same year TRESK Festival made their festival pre-event there called Vidim Tresk, combining local DJs and VJs for full audio-visual experience. With events like Reverse engineering K4 is exploring newer electronic genres, like post dubstep, future garage and other post- genres, happenings called Hočmo nazaj dinozavre are dedicated to old school hip-hop and skate punk. In the past K4 was also a venue holding rap free-style battles, even organising a state competition and initiator of an urban festival Utrip. The last took part in the year 2009 on several Ljubljana venues, with the main event happening in Križanke, to celebrate the 20th of the club's existence.

For every event K4 provides specially designed and unique flyers and here are some artists whose names were written on them: DJ Krush, DJ Marky, Stamina MC, Ellen Alien, Kenny Larkin, Stanton Warriors, Chateau Flight, Bonobo, Roni Size, Goldie, Mouse on Mars, Josh Wink, Jazzanova, Derrick May, Chicken Lips, Quantic, Richie Hawtin, Swayzak, Freddy Fresh, Hextatic, Oscar Mulero, Dan Deacon, Sutekh, Mike Shannon, XXXY, Killawatt, Xhin, Squire of Gothos, Black Sun Empire, Moomin, CUF, Dot ... As concert venue K4 hosted Silence, Happy Generated People, Disciplin A Kitschme, Atari Teenage Riot, Siddharta, Asian Dub Fundation and many are still to come.
