The Sunflower Gallery received its name from the children's book collection Sunflower [Sončnica] which the Mladinska knjiga Publishing House has been publishing for years. It operates under the logo of the happy sun created by the popular Slovene illustrator of children's books Lilijana Praprotnik Zupančič alias Lila Prap.
The Sunflower Gallery regularly prepares mostly solo exhibitions in monthly intervals. As a rule it features recent illustrations and in this way also promotes newly published books. In 2010 the gallery presented illustrations of Tomislav Torjanc from the picture book Antonton, the exhibition prior featured Maša Kozjek and her picture book Mišek Miško and Belamiška written by Feri Lainšček, published in September 2009. Recently it also featured the illustrator Marjan Manček (picture book Ringaraja by Peter Svetina) and Zvonko Čoh who presented his new illustrations of the book Kako sta se gospod in gospa pomirila by Miklavž Komelj, art historian and poet.
Since its establishing, the gallery has given the podium to almost all of Slovenia's prominent and promising illustrators, such as Jelka Reichman, Božo Kos, Suzi Bricelj, Lila Prap and many many others.
Occasionally the gallery has also featured the results of different competitions prepared by magazines of the Mladinska knjiga Publishing House. In November 2009 photographies of the photo competition "Motion and Sport in the Nature" (Fotonatečaj Gibanje in šport v naravi) published in the children's magazine Moj Planet were presented.
