Versopolis is a European-wide project that at the same time functions as a professional network and a web based platform for connecting European national poetry scenes. These are represented by an annually selected cast of poets and various international poetry & literature festivals, who oblige themselves to invite a set number of these poets and present them to their audiences. This way aspiring and emerging poets get to reach an international audience and at the same time meet poets and literature professionals from other countries.

With the very language specific nature of poetry, Versopolis takes care for the translations of the works by the poets involved, thus in the first place even enabling such a project. This in itself was launched in 2014, with the website set up and the first exchanges taking place in 2015.

Besides communicating the works of the selected poets to the festival selectors, Versopolis.com strives to also position itself – by means of a webportal – as a nodal point for European poetry. As this is otherwise predominantly dispersed on the web on a national basis, Versopolis aims for a more open and diverse European culture of poetry. As such, Versopolis is supported by the European Commission’s Creative Europe programme.
