Programme
One of the most distinctive features of Koperground Festival is its emphasis on critical thought, expressed through the choice of film, performances, musicians and invited guests, with whom conversations are held on a daily basis throughout the festival. These guests can be activists, social scientists, artists, producers from the field of culture and so on. The interlocutor is usually Marko Brecelj, head of DPZN and of the festival, as well as an avid political and cultural activist.
Film
The movie section presents a selection of world cinema and screens films by auters like Bela Tarr, Alejandro Jodorowsky and Roy Andersson. Collaborations with various Slovenian film festivals have resulted in the screenings of select films from the Stoptrik International Film Festival, the Animateka International Animated Film Festival and the Festival of Independent Film. Slovenian film makers, especially those from the creative margins (like the hyperactive Diego Menedes), are also invited to screen their works.
Music and performance
The list of hosted musicians includes musicians and groups like Rambo Amadeus (ME), Edo Maajka (BA), Kultur Shock (US), Xiu Xiu (US), Bernays Propaganda (MK), Gori Ussi Winnetou (HR), Nina Bulatovix, Žoambo Žoet Workestrao and Ludovik Material.
There are also performances by different artists and collectives, like the theatre groups Building block (US), Saltshakers (NL), Hleb Teatar (RS) and Kolektiv Narobov, the Cirkulacija 2 sound arts collective and the contemporary dance institute En-Knap Productions. Other performances can be harder to categorise and often tend to be politically charged.
Workshops
The dense programme is accompanied by workshops that can touch on practical issues like organizing events and exhibitions, stage management, video editing and comic book skills – and also on more unorthodox practices like a workshop on "Soft Terrorism", run by Marko A. Kovačič.
