The Borštnik Ring Award and Borštnik Awards are bestowed at the central festival of Slovene theatre, the Borštnik Theatre Festival, held every year in Maribor. Every year the Borštnik Ring Award, the highest award for lifetime achievement in Slovene theatre, is also presented by a separate expert jury to an actor or actress who has left a major legacy to the Slovene stage. The 2010 recipient of the Borštnik Ring Award is Janez Hočevar - Rifle.

The Borštnik Awards for achievement in repertory and independent theatres include award for best performance, best direction, best actor, award for aesthetic breakthrough, award for special achievement (set, light, or costume design, musical score, etc.), and the Dominik Smole Award for best translation or adaptation of a dramatic text.
