The Borštnik Awards for achievement in repertory and independent theatres include the Grand Prix for best performance, Borštnik Award for directing, awards for actors and young actors, Borštnik Award for dramaturgy or artistic direction, and awards for stage design, costume design, music, make-up design and/or sound design, the latter ones varying from year to year. The Dominik Smole Award is awarded for best translation or adaptation of a dramatic text. The jury bestows also a Special Borštnik Jury Award, while the Association of Theatre Critics and Researchers of Slovenia gives award for the best production of the past season.
In recent years, the Borštnik Ring, the highest accolade for theatre actors in Slovenia went to: Minu Kjuder (2009), Janez Hočevar Rifle (2010), Milada Kaleziž (2011), Igor Samobor (2012), Olga Kacjan (2013), Vlado Novak (2014) and Ljerka Belak (2015).
The Grand Prix for the Best Performance in 2014 went to Rudi Šeligo The Wedding, directed by Jernej Lorenci and performed by the Slovene National Theatre Drama Ljubljana, a Special Borštnik Jury Award went to Modern Nô Plays directed by Mateja Koležnik (Borštnik Award for Directing), and performed by the Slovene Permanent Theatre, Trieste.
In 2013 the Witkiewicz' The Crazy Locomotive performed by the Slovene National Theatre Drama Ljubljana was announced as the Best Performance. The play was directed by Jernej Lorenci who directed also the winning performance of the festival in 2012, the Ostrovsky's The Storm performed by the ensemble of the Ljubljana City Theatre.
The 2011 Borštnik Grand Prix Award went to Melville's Bartleby, the Scriveneradapted and directed by Miloš Lolić, produced by Mini Theatre. In 2009 the award for best performance went to Ivica Buljan's staging of Heiner Müller's Macbeth After Shakespeare, co-produced by Mini Theatre, Cankarjev dom, Novo kazalište Zagreb and ZeKaEm, Croatia. The award for best direction was given to Jernej Lorenci for his staging of Oresteia, produced by [[Slovene National Theatre Drama Ljubljana]].
The Dominik Smole Awards were bestowed from 2005 up to 2010 when Tina Mahkota got the award for the translation and adaptation of the Marber's Closer. In 2009 the Marko Marinčič was awarded for the new translation of Aeschylus's Oresteia.
