The Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Ankara was opened in 1996 as an official representative body of the Slovenian Government in Turkey. It promotes bilateral political, economic and cultural relations between Slovenia and Turkey.

The embassy in Ankara is responsible also for Azerbaijan, Lebanon and the Syrian Arab Republic.



Cultural cooperation

The legal basis for cooperation in the field of culture is the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Slovenia and the Government of the Republic of Turkey on Cooperation in the Fields of Education, Science and Culture signed in June 1995 in Ankara. The Programme of Cooperation in the Fields of Education, Culture and Science between the Government of the Republic of Slovenia and the Government of the Republic of Turkey for the years 2004–2008 was signed in March 2004.

In February 2011 the Embassy organised the first Week of Slovene Culture in Ankara, in cooperation with the National Library of Turkey, the Miran Jarc Library, Novo mesto, some other Slovenian libraries and the Slovenian Book Agency. The exhibition of the 60 Slovenian books exhibited were donated to the Turkish National Library. Open Studio Izmir, a collaborative project between SCCA-Ljubljana Centre for Contemporary Arts and K2 Contemporary Art Center Izmir, presented the SCCA's public programme related to videodance, sound and performance in Izmir in October 2011.
