Pivec Publishing House was established in 2003 in Maribor with an aim to promoting reading and education. They publish 15 to 25 book titles annually, ranging from monograph publications, dictionaries, textbooks, original and translated literary works, handbooks and works from the various areas of interest, such as humanities, sociology, linguistics, medicine, history, law and business. Their titles can be purchased online on their website. The publishing programme is enhanced with the organisation of literary evenings, readings, book presentations and talks with authors.

Dedicated exclusively to poetry, Pivec Publishing House annually organises the Poetry Tournament, where the best Slovene unpublished poem of the year is chosen. In 2012, when Maribor will be the European Capital of Culture, the tournament is to be expanded into the European Poetry Tournament, joining poets from six European countries.
