The latter consists of the four research areas: the overlooked women writers, literature in the borderland between Slovenia and Italy, the ancient Greek and Roman motifs and their transformation in Slovene literature, and the relation between literature and new media art. The Language and Cognitive Science research engages in formal linguistics but also extends to neuro- and psycholinguistics. The research projects include Syntax (mainly Slovenian), Morphology, Phonology (for example, (De)voicing across Slovenian Dialects) and Social and Structural Peculiarities of Slovene (Internet Language Consultancy, Slovene Company Names, Language Policy in General).

Its Language and Cognitive Science research groups cooperate with the University of Ottawa, Harvard University, Stony Brook University, and numerous other tertiary-level institutions.
