Background

The Studio Maj filmography began in 1989 with the six-hour mini-series The Betrothed, a Slovene-Italian co-production for RAI TV directed by Salvatore Nocita, and the film Maria Struggles with the Angels, also produced for RAI TV. In 1992 Studio Maj acted as line and executive producer of the short films The American Dream and Bau Bau, and in 1996–97 it produced Animal Tales by Mirza Idrizović, a TV series for children. Production of documentary series started in 1998 with The Truths About Wine, a nine-episode series about viniculture and the culture of wine consumption.

Film production

Studio Maj has collaborated with Casablanca Productions on numerous occasions, e.g. in 1999 when it was line and executive producer of the short film The Janez Puhar's Missing Formula [Izgubljena formula Janeza Puharja] by Pavel Grzinčič. In 2000 Studio Maj acted as co-producer and executive producer of the French-Belgian-Italian-UK-Slovene co-production No Man's Land [Nikogaršnja zemlja], the Academy Award-, Golden Globe Award- and European Film Academy Award-winning film by Danis Tanović.

In 2000 it co-produced Don't Tell Anyone [Naj ostane med nami] by Brane Bitenc. In 2001 it was co-producer of French-Greek-Slovene co-production Lily's Story [Ljiljina zgodba] by Robert Manthoulis, and in 2002 producer and executive producer of Danis Tanović's short film 11-09-01, produced by Galatee Films and Studio Canal. In 2002 Studio Maj co-produced Polona Sepe's docu-fiction short film It flies... It flies... It flies... Woman? [Leti... leti... leti... ženska?] and in 2003 it produced the animation series The Buffons [Bizgeci] by Grega Mastnak in co-production with Bad Movies, Greece and RTV Slovenia.

In 2005 Benjamin Filipović's Well Tempered Corpses (2005) was co-produced by Studio Maj and Casablanca Productions together with Flash Productions Sarajevo, ASAP Films of Paris, Cinemark France and Sintra film, Rome. In the same year, Studio Maj produced the feature film Warchild [Izginuli] (2005) together with Christian Wagner Film, Munich.

Studio Maj's most recent feature film, Tea (Teah, 2006), was co-produced together with Gustav Film, Jadran film Zagreb and SPI International, Warsaw. In 2010 it co-produced Some Other Stories [Neke druge zgodbe], an omnibus feature-film on transitional social climate by five authors (Ivona Juka, Ana Maria Rossi, Ines Tanović, Marija Džidževa, Hanna Slak) from five ex-Yugoslavian countries; the film was also shown as a part of the 2011 edition of the City of Women International Festival of Contemporary Arts. Cirkus Columbia (2010), another co-production feature film with Danis Tanović, is a drama (starring Miki Manojlović and Mira Furlan) dealing with the family situation after the splitting of Yugoslavia in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
