Background
Studio Maj began in 1989 with the six-hour mini-series The Betrothed, a Slovene-Italian co-production for RAI TV directed by Salvatore Nocita, and the film Maria Struggles with the Angels, also produced for RAI TV. In 1992 it served as line and executive producer of the short films The American Dream and Bau Bau, and in 1996–97 it produced a TV series for children by Mirza Idrizović titled Animal Tales. The 1998 The Truths About Wine, a nine-episode series about viticulture and the culture of wine consumption, marks the beginning of the studio's documentary film production.
