The Domestic Research Society (DRS) was established in 2004 by visual artists Alenka Pirman and Damijan Kracina, and art historian Jani Pirnat. The association documents, collects, researches and presents domestic phenomena as installations, exhibitions or web projects related to the field of culture, art, science, conservation, education and research.

Projects

Alongside an open phraseology dictionary web project Razvezani jezik (Unleashed Tongue), launched in 2004 the team has conceived an engaging public art project entitled The Animals 1914-1918 installed in Tolmin. In Autumn 2005 the interdisciplinary project was conceived in relation to the phenomenon of the private collections: a modular display laboratory called Kabinet is a temporary exhibiting space (located in the inner courtyard of the ŠKUC Gallery, which is dedicated to the presentation of the projects by the DRS members and guests. Up to now the following projects took place in the Cabinet: La Capilla Atomica; Alternations by J. Pirnat; Shut Your Eyes and Watch (Silent Lectures) and On Profession II - Rog Teachings both by A Pirman, Folk Museum of Nani Poljanec Rogaška Slatina curated by J. Pirnat; Specimen by D. Kracina and J. Pirnat; Napeto v kabinetu (Distended Cabinet) installation by Irena Romih; Jelenometrija a Cabinet research exhibition by Alexei Monroe and DRS members (a hunt for the symbolic Stag on the borders of natural science, humanities and art).

In Autumn 2007 the DRS initiated a new joint long-term project with ŠKUC Gallery and Celje Gallery of Contemporary Art: Artwork - a series of lectures that focus on individual works of art. The first lecturers were Tomaž Brejc and Bojan Gorenec followed by Jože Barši, Miklavž Komelj and Dunja Kukovec in 2008 and Dragan Živadinov, Meta Gabršek Prosenc and Martina Vovk in 2009. All and whole lectures are video-documented: [1]. In 2010 DRS features lectures by Beti Žerovc, speaking about the alegoric composition entitled Slovene is bowing to Ljubljana (Slovenija se klanja Ljubljani), painted in 1903 by famous Slovene realist painter Ivana Kobilca - two lectures will be helded in April in Likovni salon Celje and in the Škuc Gallery. In September Urška Jurman gives the lecture, and in October Jiři Bezlaj.

The latest ongoing project by DRS S'pajkanje started as the exhibition in Ljubljana Kolodvor Library in September 2009, further exist and it is developed as a blog [2]. Its subject is the metal wall spider, an ornament that has been adorning the walls od Slovenian homes for almost 60 years, in the meantime becoming so commonplace that it gets overlooked even by its owners and their neighbours.
