The Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia Rome was opened in 1992 as an official representative body of the Slovene Government to the Republic of Italy. It provides consular assistance and promotes bilateral political, economic and cultural relations between Slovenia and neighbouring Italy. The Slovenian Embassy in Rome is also accredited for San Marino, Malta, Tunisia and Libya.

Other diplomatic representatives of the Republic of Slovenia in Italy include Consulate General of the Republic of Slovenia Trst/Trieste and Consulate of the Republic of Slovenia Milano. The Embassy and consulates also represent interests of the relatively large Slovenian minority in Italy.

Cultural cooperation

The cultural cooperation between two countries is based upon the cultural agreement between Federative People’s Republic of Yugoslavia and Italy, which was part of the succession in 1992. The first steps in forming a new agreement foundation have been made in 2010-2013.
