Programme
SCCA intensively cooperates with numerous national and international organisations, mostly it works with NGOs. It produces, stimulates and mediates innovative artistic and interpretative practices, places them within a social framework, and encourages international links between systems of western and eastern countries. Further, SCCA provides participants and users of contemporary art (artists, curators, theorists, critics, audiences) with the knowledge, tools and skills necessary for optimal operation within the art system. Activities and collaborators come from a wide range of sectors and professions, ranging from humanity and social studies, visual anthropology and cultural studies to art history, sociology of culture, philosophy and visual and media arts. SCCA activities are divided into three areas: projects, school and services.
Projects
Besides complex projects as Platforma SCCA, Videodokument and Videospotting and some further projects as Artservis Collection, Internet Portfolio, No Nails, No Pedestals and Studio 6, the SCCA is active as co-producer and partner of projects as the new biennial of contemporary arts from the Balkan region entitled D-O ARK Underground, which is starting in May 2011 in Konjic (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and is accompanied with the special programme starting in September 2010. In this field the SCCA cooperated in July 2010 with Ljudmila - Ljubljana Digital Media Lab as the co-producer of the workshop of critical writing for intermedia arts entitled art[click]+ika that happened at KUD France Prešeren Arts and Culture Association in Ljubljana. SCCA is also one of partners of international programme On-AiR, a European tool for artists offering seminars, mobility workshops and training programs on artist-in-residence opportunities featured occasionally between May 2010 and April 2012.
Since 1994 the SCCA is active as well as a producer of exhibitions and presentations. Beside presentations in the SCCA-Ljubljana Centre for Contemporary Arts Project Room as it was in March organised exhibition of contemporary feminist art from Slovenia entitled Female Artist - the Art of Survival, the SCCA cooperates in the field with plenty other Slovene and international galleries and art spaces. In winter 2009 it featured by Saša Glavan curated group exhibition Around the world of art in 4.380 days in the Alkatraz Gallery that was the complex overview of a twelve years history of World of Art: School for Contemporary Arts assembling selected art works and documentary material from video and audio archive of numerous events, exhibitions, workshops and lectures from this unique educational program in Slovenia. SCCA occasionally also prepares exhibitions in the Vžigalica Gallery or Škuc Gallery, internationally it exhibits and prepares projects for spaces as The Foundation & Gallery 3,14, Bergen (Norway), where it in 2008 featured the video exhibition, presentation and lecture by Barbara Borčič entitled VS_BERGEN that showed works of three curated programs Videodokument_Presents, Eyedentify Yourself, and Creatures II.
SCCA is occasionally active as well in the field of researches preparing reflexions and analyses focused on the themes that contribute considerably to the understanding of contemporary art practice and its context as it was the project Manifesta in Our Backyard (1999-2002) that was hosted in Ljubljana in 2000 (Manifesta), where SCCA examinated the operation of the contemporary art system trying to avoid passive and uncritical acceptance of the event.
School
SCCA field of school activites comprises beside the World of Art: School for Contemporary Arts and the SCCA-Ljubljana Centre for Contemporary Arts Library also Videotheque and workshops for invited participants and wide audience with Slovene and international mentors, tutors and lecturers like Mike Hentz, Miško Šuvaković, Ivana Keser, or Charles Harisson and Patrizia Evans. Workshops are organized occasionally since 2000. Videotheque is study video and audio archive (analogue and digital) of contemporary arts with a focus on video art of mainly Slovene and foreign artists. Ever since 1994 SCCA-Ljubljana systematically deals (collects, documents, researches, reflects and presents) with the video production in Slovenia. This can be seen in the extensive research and documentation project Videodokument: Video art in Slovenia 1969-1998 (a catalogue with documentation, a book of essays, a CD-ROM and a web site, 1999/2001).
Services
SCCA-Ljubljana offers information and co-ordination services in respect of various competitions for artists (eg CEC Artslink) and for cultural organisations. All of SCCA's service activities complement each other, representing a comprehensive information and advisory support system for arts and culture. The main characteristic of all its programmes is open and free access for all users operating in Slovenia and worldwide in the field of arts and culture.
Beside services as Artservis.org and Evrokultura, the SCCA Ljubljana managed since 2002 the Cultural Contact Point Slovenia, offering information and administering applications for EU funding schemes such as the Programme Culture. Since 2008 it runs also Cultural Point ALF for Slovenia (Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation (ALF)).
International memberships
SCCA-Ljubljana is a member of the CAE (Culture Action Europe, Brussels), Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation (ALF), IKT (International Association of Curators of Contemporary Art, Luksemburg), the International Contemporary Art Network (ICAN), the European Forum for the Arts and Heritage (EFAH), as well as the Asociacija, Association of Arts and Culture NGOs and Freelancers of Ljubljana.
It has been engaged also in GAMA, the Gateway to Archives of Media Art, which provides access to a wealth of information about the works of both well-known and emerging media artists from European collections of media art.
