The Arrea Architecture bureau was founded by Maruša Zorec, Uroš Rustja, Mitja Novak, and Martina Tepina, a collective of architects. In several projects Arrea have tackled cultural heritage issues. With a subtle touch they transform ruined and abandoned places into modern buildings while respecting the qualities of the existing structure and programme, and the natural surroundings.

Founded by Maruša Zorec in established::2005, the work of Arrea Architecture encompasses a range of activities, but it is restoration or "restructuring" projects that have garnered the firm considerable renown. By applying a nuanced view of architecture as memory, Arrea has succeeded in aligning historically rich structures with the needs and tastes of the modern world, as evidenced by their acclaimed intervention on Plečnik House in Ljubljana.

In 2010 Arrea designed the first low-energy wooden youth hostel in Slovenia "Punkl", managed by the Youth Cultural Centre in the Municipality of Ravne na Koroškem.

Arrea has carried out a number of renovation projects throughout Slovenia, including the Koroška Central Library, a chapel in the cellar of the Franciscan monastery in Ljubljana, and the Villa Ventrelli Complex (in cooperation with Robert Potokar from Ravnikar-Potokar Architecture Bureau and Ana Kučan from Studio AKKA).

In 2015, the firm undertook the awesome task of renovating the former home of Slovenia's greatest architect, Jože Plečnik, which currently houses a museum dedicated to his life and work. The resulting space, with its subtle interplay of light and wood, was awarded the architect's namesake award, a tacit acknowledgement that they had succeeded in honouring Plečnik's legacy in a modern, relevant way.

The two main elements of Arrea projects are "light" and "communication"; both clearly legible in their architecture. In addition their architecture emphasises the freedom of an open space and softens the boarders between interior and exterior, letting one flow into another.
+
Arrea Architects have also applied their approach to new designs, such as the building of the College of Catering and Hospitality in Maribor (2015) and the entrance pavilion of the Voljči Potok Arboretum in Domžale (2017).

Most of Arrea projects have been awarded prestigious national awards and have also received several honourable mentions. Other projects include the renovation of the Koroška Central Library Dr France Sušnik, Ravne na Koroškem, a daytime chapel in the cellar of the Franciscan monastery in Ljubljana, and a renovation of the Villa Ventrelli Complex, a project made in cooperation with Robert Potokar from Ravnikar-Potokar Architecture Bureau and Ana Kučan from Studio AKKA.
