The Youth Centre for Cultural Activities Maribor (MKC) was established in 1993 by the Municipality of Maribor. It is a public institution, designed to stimulate, develop and mediate the activities of young people in the field of arts. It enables through its programmes the artistic and creative activities of young people in various fields, provides counselling, mentoring and non-formal education, as well as technical and infrastructural service assistance.
MKC's activities include computer and new media art, literature, theatre and dance arts, visual arts, video, film and photography, music, non-profit management and production. Its most important and oldest projects are the No Border Jam Festival (now organised by and the Cultural Centre Maribor) and the International Festival of Computer Arts (IFCA). MKC also participates in the Slovene Book Days and co-organises the Festival Performa & Platforma, an international festival of contemporary dance and performance arts.
The selected programmes and projects of the MCC Maribor were included in the programmes of Maribor, European Capital of Culture 2012 and the European Youth Capital 2013.
MKC runs many youth programmes: Living Library Maribor, Bank of Ideas – Local Fund for Young People with Ideas, Maribor through Pink Glasses and the Youth Maribor Project.
MKC Maribor runs the Media Nox Gallery, in which public performances – exhibitions, projections, concerts, workshops, lectures and readings take place, and the new venue Kulturni Inkubator dedicated to presenting new media projects, comics and cartoons.
