Celje Gallery of Contemporary Art Las in vitro by Polona Tratnik in the exhibition Sculpture Today curated by Tomaž Brejc, Alenka Domjan, Jiři Kočica, Polona Tratnik, Celje Gallery of Contemporary Art, 2010 Established in 1993, the Celje Gallery of Contemporary Art is situated on the outskirts of the old town centre and is part of the architectural complex of buildings that once formed the foothill castle of the Counts of Celje. Since 2005 it is managed by the Celeia Celje Institute - Centre for Contemporary Arts as its principal exhibition space. Annually the venue hosts up to 10 exhibitions addressing specific themes or offering a thorough monographic presentation of individual artistic positions. Idrija Lace Festival For centuries, the town of Idrija has been associated with mining and lacemaking as its trademarks. The Idrija Lace Festival has presented works of Idrija Lace (idrijska čipka) since the early 1980s. Every June, lacemakers show their creations in the streets of Idrija, lacemaking competitions and exhibitions are organized, and thematic lacemaking workshops are held. It is also possible to buy technical equipment for lacemaking and to view exhibitions of other folk trades and crafts.
