Dekleva Gregorič Arhitekti was set up in 2003 by Aljoša Dekleva (1972) and Tina Gregorič (1974) after they completed their Master degrees at the Architectural Association in London. While in the UK they co-founded the international architects' network RAMTV. The architects' master thesis on mass-customisation of housing entitled Negotiate My boundary! received a lot of international professional attention and was published as a book by AA Publications, London and by Birkhauser, Basle.

Since completing their international breakthrough project, the XXS House (eXtra-eXtra-Small House) in Krakovo, Ljubljana in 2004, their projects have included Housing L in Sežana in 2005, and a private residence on Maui, Hawaii in 2006, among others.

Work

The work of Dekleva Gregorič Arhitekti has been showcased at numerous individual and group exhibitions at home and abroad, and published in books, architectural magazines, and online publications. Their lectures have been held in countries all over Europe (Austria, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, UK,...) as well as in Mexico.

Their architecture is focused on spatial, social, and material organisations. Their current projects include the Centre for Mediterranean Culture as part of the University Campus Livade in Izola/Isola, and the Cultural Centre of European Space Technologies (KSEVT) in collaboration with Bevk Perović Arhitekti, Ofis Arhitekti, and SADAR + VUGA Architects.

Through research and a conceptual approach they respond to specific constrains and conditions, and aim to stimulate new social interactions among users as well as their participation in the design process.

Awards

A wide selection of national awards include the Golden Pencil Award, granted annually by the Chamber of Architecture and Spatial Planning of Slovenia (ZAPS). In 2011 they received it for the realisation of the housing Razgledi Perovo, and in 2009 for the Metal Recycling Plant ODPAD Pivka; the latest was also granted the Plečnik Medal in 2008. For Showroom Pertot the Interior of the year 2009 award was bestowed to Dekleva Gregorič Arhitekti at the Month of Design.

The list of international awards includes the Silver Plate and the European Architecture Award Luigi Cosenza in 2004, the Wallpaper* Award for best breakthrough designers in 2006, and 40 under 40 award from the European Center for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies (2009). International Architecture Awards 2009 from the Chicago Athenaeum (Museum of Architecture and Design and Metropolitan Arts Press, Ltd.) and nomination for European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Prize 2009 were both rewarding the Metal Recycling Plant ODPAD Pivka. The studio was also shortlisted for the Contractworld Award in 2010.
