Photon Gallery initiated the Month of Photography in Ljubljana in 2005. The roots of the Month of Photography date back to 2004, when a network of organisers from a number of European cities was formed under the name European Month of Photography. Each year the event focuses on presenting contemporary trends in the photography of Slovenia and other countries in the region. The 2006 event was launched at Ljubljana Castle with the opening of the Photonic Moments exhibition. The 2006 programme involved a total of almost 20 exhibitions and accompanying events, including for the first time the award of prize for best exhibit of the year.
