Mladinska knjiga Publishing House (MK) is the largest publishing house in Slovenia, which in 2007 published 391 titles, alongside an additional eight titles for the Croatian market, as well as 91 school books and CD-ROMs. Exports have increased with the re-opening of the Croatian market.

Mladinska knjiga was established in 1945. Today it has branches in 8 other countries: Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania, Austria, and Italy. It offers extensive and varied coverage of poetry (the collection Lirika, established in 1970, includes around 100 titles of world poetry translations), prose and professional literature. However, its most significant publishing and research project is without doubt the Encyclopaedia of Slovenia, which was issued in 16 volumes.

MK is also the main publisher of magazines for children (Cicido, Ciciban, Moj planet, PIL), and school students (PILplus), runs the educational project Vesela šola ("Merry School") and publishes GEA magazine. In 2004 it started a partnership with Reader's Digest Inc. and began publishing the Slovene version of Reader's Digest magazine.

Mladinska knjiga runs also the Sunflower Gallery that present mostly book illustration by the authors working with and for the Mladinska knjiga Publishing House and those who are publishing their work in the abovementioned children magazines.

Every year Mladinska knjiga organises two smaller book fairs: Frankfurt after Frankfurt, a presentation of new books, and Bologna after Bologna, a fair for new children's books. It also bestows the Levstik Award for children's literature.

The Mladinska knjiga book club, called Svet knjige ("Book World") was established in 1974 and has more than 100,000 members.

Apart from the largest publishing house in Slovenia, Mladinska knjiga Group manages also the network of about 50 bookshops round Slovenia, the largest of which (Konzorcij Bookstore) in Ljubljana, and hosts the Frankfurt after Frankfurt Book Fair and Bologna after Bologna Children's Book Fair.
