The Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia Podgorica was opened in 2006 when Montenegro became an independent state. It provides consular services in Montenegro and promotes bilateral political, economic, and cultural ties between the two countries.

Other representatives of the Republic of Slovenia in Montenegro include the consulate in Bar, which was opened in 2012.

Cultural cooperation

The embassy has based its strategy of cooperation between the two states on the priorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia. The familiarity of Slavic languages in the region and membership of both countries in the Forum of Slavic Cultures International Foundation serves as a backbone of cultural cooperation, exchange, and further development in the bilateral relations. In 2013, the year commemorating the 200th anniversary of the birth of the Montenegrin poet Njegoš, the 18th management committee session of the Forum of Slavic Cultures took place in Cetinje, Montenegro.

Film and visual arts

In October 2013 RTV Slovenia's TV film production, Hvala za Sunderland [Thanks for Sunderland], Aksioma's My Name is Janez Janša and Najslabši dan [The Worst Day] by AGRFT were screened and presented at the 18th edition of the International TV Film Festival in Bar.

At the 2013 International Visual Art meeting Stari most, the embassy supported the guest appearance of Dušan Zidar, Cveto Kobal, and Oto Rimele in Bijelo polje.

Music, literature and performing arts

In 2013 the embassy supported the guest appearance of Mini Theatre's puppet theatre play Sneguljčica [Snow White] at the Puppet Festival in Podgorica. The same year Anton Podbevšek Theatre presented the play Slavoj Žižek: Welcome to the Spiritual Animal Kingdom at the Royal Theatre Zetski dom from Cetinje. Zlatko Kaučič performed at the JAM 2013, Podgorica's jazz festival, where he also conducted two workshops.

Two established writers from Slovenia who are popular in the Slavic-speaking region, Goran Vojnović and Jurij Hudolin, attended the short story literature festival Odakle zovem from Podgorica. Since 2012 the Slovenian Society Vida Matjan is also operating in Podgorica.
