Slovene PEN Centre


The Slovene PEN Centre is the Slovene branch of International PEN, a worldwide association of writers founded in 1921 with the aim to promote literature, defend freedom of expression and work for peaceful coexistence between nations. The branch was established already in 1926 and began to organise its annual international conference in 1967, first at Piran, then at the lakeside resort of Bled, making the International PEN Writers' Meeting the oldest annual regional conference within the framework of the International PEN.

Aristej Publishing House


Aristej started as a publisher of children's books in 1993 and with the integration of Dialogi Journal next year re-established itself as a publisher of social science and humanities books. Since 1998 it publishes the magazine Dialogi Journal, and since 2007, the Analiza Journal. They have continued to translate and publish books for children, and started with the collection of educational books for youth called "Pojmovnik" ("A Glossary"). Many of Aristej’s books have opened up new fields and topics which prior to that time had not been treated in Slovenia so comprehensively, especially in the field of analytical philosophy. Some of the books can be bought online.

Baraga Homestead


The Baraga Homestead is a birthplace of Friderik Irenej Baraga (1797–1868), a bishop, missionary, and linguist. The two rooms in his manor in Mala vas, a village near Trebnje in the Dolenjska region, display his personal belongings and documentation of his missionary activities among the native peoples of North America. The collection is managed by the Archbishop's Ordinariate in Ljubljana. Part of Baraga's collection, however, is on display at the Slovene Ethnographic Museum and represents the oldest non-European contribution to the museum (donated by the missionary himself in 1837). A part of his collection, however, is kept also by the Slovene Museum of Christianity.
